Hi,

here is the sample of the bridle that I was talking about:
<img src="http://www.kite-stuff.org/images/kites/LightFly/7m/LightFly_7m_bridle5.jpg" style="border: 0;" onLoad="if(this.width > 300) {this.width = 300;}" onmouseout="unpointercursor();" onmouseover="if(this.width == 300) {pointercursor();}" />

I've test the bridle on the pic some time ago too, but I've discard it since pulley only worsen some issues that I want to remove. I didn't test it w/o pulleys back then...

LF7m is equipped with almost the same, G11 has longer upper cascade. No pulleys. Spider 4.5 currently has similar one.

I'll make some pics and make some comments in each kite threads later...

                                      hi,

i am not sure what you mean exactly.
But the airflow depends on the size of the valve. if you build a valve what is nearly as big as the cell in the kite, then it does not matter if itīs fixed with one sewing on the side.
Because if the air goes in, then the valve is open. if you use a net in front, you will have to build a valve too.

I was searching on the various implementations (air inlet valves, jetflaps etc) used in custom stitched kites and found that air inlet valves were the most used. Are there any custom kites that feature jetflaps , blow out valves and the like? Were they not used because of the degree of complexity and stitching hassle or are there other reasons? It would also be beneficial to illustrate what they do and the way they work.

                                      Well, spent some time at the end of september in corsica :
<img src="http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/368/p1020224wpv4.jpg" style="border: 0;" onLoad="if(this.width > 300) {this.width = 300;}" onmouseout="unpointercursor();" onmouseover="if(this.width == 300) {pointercursor();}" />
The 7mē is the kite I use the more,
the wind blowed a week long from 20 to 30+ knots...
And even at 20knots I was prefering kitting with my 7mē than with my 9mē.
It is great!!!!!
Ultra-safe, good handling, you can forget it while you're surfing, I love it.
only one bad point, few lift, it is definitly not a freestyle kite, but I'm not a freestyler, so, ...
I'm building another one for my girlfriend

                                      Would it be wise to buy a training kite first, not necessarily to surf with, but as a way to learn controls? Understand that I am on a tight budget, and cutting back on any unnecessary expense would be preferable. I've been studying some design from the resources at zero-prestige as well as the information from kitesurfingschool and I am still considering a small, simple kite design from alternative materials, possibly using old sails and torn spinnakers or tarp and tyvek. Would this be wise? Another question, are there many kitesurfers up here in the midwest that would be willing to teach a new kitesurfer technique?

                                      Hi M2C here,

IMO ultra flat high AR kite currently is attractive for a very small market.

I've made one ultra flat kite in 2005 (Ripper is very similar) and tunning is difficult. I've just recently found a simple bridle which seems to eliminate many problems with the kite. And relaunch of this kind of kite is kind of harder (at least non-bow)... My personal opinion is that these kites is more for advanced riders...

Straight struts are good/easy for sewing, but they should never be underinflated or too thin... I'm with 2piece struts now, which match the profile extremely good...

BTW everyone is going to a simple, low panels, easy to sew kites, which have still good characteristics for probably 90% of kiters IMO...

My word of advice - go for less and not soo flat
SURFPLAN PRO???

For the first part of the design i just used Surfplan hobby version. Later i made some changes by hand on the printed plans.

Update: Kite did not survive last session:
Last week i surfed the kite with about 17-20 knots of wind at the North Sea. The three hours or so i had good fun with the kite, it had great control. When i got more confident with the kite i started doing some kiteloops and 360tys etc. After one jump i had the lines twisted so i let go the bar to untwist the lines (stupid because i didn't have a stopper on it ). So the kite fell out of the sky, before it crashed i got the bar again. So now it crashed full power and straight down. The result was that the LE exploded. I had to swim back to the shore .

I suspect that the dacron i used had a too hard finish ( it made a lot of noise on the sewing machine). I tested the dacron for tearing strenght yesterday, and it was much weaker than the dacron i used a few years ago.

So now i have the choice of repairing this kite or building a new one. I guess i will build a new improved one.

The surfplan plans of the kite shown above are attached, and also a surfplan file of an improved version. (the bridle in the file is not usable).
